Large Corporate Groups and Air Travel: A Commercial/Private Aviation Comparison

Large corporate outings are common in the business world. It could be a company retreat, transferring in specialists to tackle a particular strategic problem, or a full-scale meeting at the national headquarters. Whatever the reason, large groups tend to incur especially high travel costs for businesses.

Traditionally, companies would have to settle for coordinating travel through commercial airlines. But as technological improvements and a growing travel market has driven down prices and given rise to various other options for companies, many are now taking the route of chartering private jets.

In this report, we’ll delve into the benefits of chartering private jets for your corporate travels and show you just how this exciting new travel option can help you reduce travel expenses, save you a surprising amount of time, and provide a new level of comfort.

Reducing Travel Expenses for Large Groups

As a major decision maker for your business, one of your main concerns is undoubtedly how an action will affect the bottom line. After all, cutting costs is necessary in order to survive in the modern economy. That’s why chartering a private jet might be the most financially viable option for your large group travel.

Consider the expenses for a large traveling group of 17 employees. With baggage fees, in-flight amenities, taxes, and the possibility of transferring to another plane to reach tertiary airports (which most commercial planes are not cleared to use), you can expect to pay at least $400 per economy ticket and likely twice as much for business class, bringing the numbers to anywhere from $6800 to $13,600. And the more people there are in the party, the more you end up paying total.

When chartering a private jet, however, you are typically charged a flat fee for the entire aircraft, as low as $1200 per flight hour. This comes in especially handy the more people there are in your group. So, while traveling commercially with a large group involves higher expenses per person, the more people on a private charter jet there are, the less it actually ends up costing per person.

How does it compare? Well, if you took the same group on a 4-hour round trip, you are looking at savings of anywhere from $2,000 to $8,800 for this trip alone!

Saving Time

One of the largest shares of costs of doing business is, for many companies, labor costs. Paying employees to perform their duties is essential for every business, but finding ways to cut back on unnecessary work time is the key to running a successful company.

That’s why balancing cost and time expenditures when it comes to traveling is especially important. Doing so is even more crucial when considering a good portion of travel time can qualify an employee for overtime at 1.5X their normal hourly rate.

When it comes to travel time reduction, there is no better option on the market than chartering a private jet. Whereas traditional commercial air travel comes with an average of delay of 12.1 minutes per flight and 30-40 minutes in wasted time getting on and off the plane alone, flights on a private jet are delayed only 30% as much and cut in half (if not eliminated entirely) onboarding and off-boarding times.

If our hypothetical group of 17 employees had at least one connecting flight, the numbers show choosing a private jet could save you from paying for anywhere from 26.6 to 32.3 hours of labor costs alone for a round trip. That adds up to savings of anywhere from $895 to $1628 for employees making $70K a year.

A New Level of Comfort

Last but not least, private jet chartering gives your employees a level of comfort and freedom that commercial airlines simply cannot provide. Even when it comes to traveling first class, many private jets offer a more spacious interior than most commercial airlines. And when the success of your company hinges upon the performance of your employees, there’s no good reason why they shouldn’t feel more rested, at ease, or generally pleased after traveling.

With the reduced costs, saved time, and added comfort that chartering a private jet provides, it’s clear that commercial travel for your large corporate group simply won’t cut it.
